"Literacy Plus cultivates not just knowledge, but moral strength and self-reliance."

— MDF Programme Brief

Programme Overview

An inclusive, faith-aligned education for the most marginalised

Momentum Development Foundation's Literacy Plus programme is designed to serve out-of-school children, disadvantaged girls, street orphans, and underserved adults across Pakistan. Rooted in the principles of literacy, character development, and vocational empowerment, it integrates Quranic education with foundational literacy, numeracy, and market-driven skill development.

This holistic learning model cultivates not just academic knowledge, but also moral strength, self-reliance, and long-term societal contribution — building individuals who can transform their communities from within.

The programme responds to Pakistan's profound literacy and education crisis, reaching those most excluded from formal systems due to poverty, social stigma, and geographic isolation — and delivering proven, measurable results.

The Scale of the Crisis

Why It Matters

Pakistan's education crisis demands a holistic response

Marginalised groups — particularly street children, orphans, and disadvantaged girls — remain excluded from formal education due to poverty, social stigma, and limited access. The absence of values-based learning and practical skills compounds this challenge, contributing to low human capital, rising unemployment, and deepening inequality.

The Literacy Plus programme responds by delivering a comprehensive educational experience that integrates foundational literacy, Islamic teachings, moral development through Tarbia and Tazkia, and market-relevant vocational skills. This approach improves individual outcomes while building stronger, more self-reliant communities.

Aligned with national development goals and global education priorities, Literacy Plus is not just a programme — it is a movement toward a more equitable and literate Pakistan.

Who We Serve

Reaching those the system has left behind

01

Out-of-School Children

Children aged 5–16 who have never enrolled or have dropped out of formal education, particularly in underserved rural and peri-urban areas across Pakistan.

02

Disadvantaged Girls

Girls disproportionately excluded by poverty, cultural barriers, and distance. Literacy Plus places special emphasis on gender inclusion, providing safe, community-based learning spaces.

03

Street Children & Orphans

Among the most vulnerable — children without parental support or stable shelter. The programme provides structured education, moral guidance, and a pathway to self-sufficiency.

04

Underserved Adults

Adults aged 15 and above trapped in illiteracy. The programme extends its holistic model to mature learners, equipping them with literacy, life skills, and vocational training.

05

Women & Girls in Rural Areas

Women who face compounded barriers of geography, tradition, and poverty are given priority access to community-based centres established at their doorsteps.

06

Neo-Literate Adults

Graduates of basic literacy phases who are ready to advance into vocational skills development, entrepreneurship, and income generation for lasting independence.
