In Pakistan, an estimated 71 million people—primarily in rural areas—lack reliable electricity access, reinforcing a cycle where energy poverty translates directly into health, education, and livelihood deprivation. Expanding clean energy solutions offers dual benefits: accelerating development while contributing to greenhouse gas mitigation, a core priority of the Green Climate Fund. MDF can leverage its existing education and health programs to deploy solar installations for off-grid schools and health centers, creating immediate social impact. This strategy aligns with funding windows under the GCF mitigation portfolio, International Climate Initiative renewable energy programs, and European Union energy access frameworks.
